What is a VPS?
A virtual private server is a virtualized server environment that provides an isolated operating environment and allocated computing resources on shared physical infrastructure.
What can a VPS be used for?
Common workloads include websites, applications, development environments, databases, monitoring services, automation and other workloads appropriate to the selected resources and policies.
What is virtualization?
Virtualization abstracts physical computing resources so multiple virtual machines can operate on a physical host. A hypervisor manages the virtual machines and their access to host resources.
What is a hypervisor?
A hypervisor is the software layer that creates and manages virtual machines. It controls how guest operating systems access virtual CPU, memory, storage and networking resources.
What is the difference between a VPS and a dedicated server?
A VPS is a virtual machine running on physical infrastructure shared with other virtual machines. A dedicated server provides an entire physical server to one customer.
What is the difference between VPS and shared hosting?
Shared hosting generally provides a managed hosting environment where multiple websites use a common software stack. A VPS provides a virtual server environment with more direct operating-system control.
Do VPS plans include root or administrative access?
Access depends on the specific service and configuration shown at purchase. Check the current product description in the client area before ordering.
Who manages a VPS after provisioning?
For a self-managed VPS, the customer is responsible for operating-system updates, applications, firewall configuration, credentials and server-level security unless administration is separately provided.
Should I keep backups of my VPS?
Yes. Customers should maintain independent backups of important data. A server should not be treated as the only copy of important information.
Does Altox Cloud guarantee backups?
Do not assume that a backup or restoration guarantee applies unless it is explicitly included in the purchased service or a written service agreement.
What is Windows Server RDP?
Windows Server RDP refers to a Windows server environment accessed through Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol. It allows authorized users to operate a remote Windows desktop or server session.
Is RDP the same as a VPN?
No. RDP is a remote-access protocol for controlling a Windows session. A VPN creates a network tunnel or private network path and does not itself provide a Windows desktop.
How should I secure a Windows RDP server?
Use strong unique credentials, keep Windows updated, restrict exposure where practical, use firewall rules, monitor authentication events and disable unnecessary services or accounts.
How should I secure a Linux VPS?
Keep packages updated, use strong authentication, restrict network ports, configure a firewall, review privileged accounts, monitor logs and maintain tested backups.
What is NAS storage?
Network-attached storage is storage made available over a network, commonly for file sharing, backups and centralized data access.
What is the difference between file, block and object storage?
File storage exposes files and directories, block storage presents storage volumes to systems, and object storage stores data as objects with metadata through an object-oriented interface.
What does CPU allocation mean on a VPS?
CPU allocation describes the processing capacity made available to a virtual machine. Actual performance can also depend on host architecture, contention, workload behavior and software configuration.
Does more RAM always make a server faster?
No. Additional RAM helps workloads that are memory constrained, but performance can instead be limited by CPU, storage I/O, networking or application design.
What does NVMe storage mean?
NVMe is a storage protocol designed for modern non-volatile memory devices and can provide low-latency, high-throughput storage when paired with suitable hardware.
What happens if I exceed service resources?
Resource behavior depends on the service and its terms. Excessive or abusive usage may result in throttling, investigation, suspension or other action under the applicable policies.
Can I run any software on a VPS?
No. Software and workloads must comply with the Terms of Service, Acceptable Use Policy, applicable law and the resource limits of the service.
Is cryptocurrency mining allowed?
The applicable Terms and Acceptable Use Policy determine whether mining is permitted. Do not assume that high-resource workloads are allowed without checking the current policy and product terms.
Can I run a proxy or VPN?
Proxy and VPN use is subject to the service policy and abuse controls. Uses that facilitate abuse, evasion, spam or attacks are prohibited.
Can I host a game server?
A game-server workload may be possible where supported by the purchased service and compliant with the applicable policies. Resource requirements vary substantially by game, player count and configuration.
Can I host websites on a VPS?
Yes. A VPS can host web servers and applications when the operating system, web stack, networking and security configuration are properly managed.
Can I host a database on a VPS?
Yes, provided the workload fits the selected resources and service policies. Database workloads should be planned around RAM, CPU, storage I/O, backup and recovery requirements.
What is the client area used for?
The client area is used for account management, ordering, billing, active services and other customer-facing service actions.
Where can I check invoices and renewals?
Use the Altox Cloud client area and keep the registered email address active and monitored. Customers remain responsible for reviewing invoices and renewal dates.
How do refunds work?
Refund eligibility is governed by the published Refund Policy. The policy includes a 24-hour request window for eligible first-time purchases and lists services that are non-refundable.
Are VPS purchases refundable?
The current Refund Policy states that VPS services are non-refundable. Customers should review the policy before purchasing.
What happens after non-payment?
An unpaid service may be suspended and data may eventually be deleted according to the applicable Terms. Customers are responsible for monitoring invoices and renewals.
What is the Acceptable Use Policy?
The AUP defines prohibited or abusive activities and sets rules intended to protect infrastructure, networks, other customers and third parties.
What should I do if I receive an abuse complaint?
Review the complaint promptly, stop the relevant activity where appropriate, secure the affected system and respond through the designated support channel. The AUP sets a 24-hour response expectation for abuse notices.
Can Altox suspend a service?
Services may be suspended under the Terms and AUP for reasons including non-payment, policy violations, fraud, security threats or legal compliance requirements.
Does Altox provide an SLA?
The site publishes an SLA. It applies only where the relevant service or order is eligible under that SLA. Review the exclusions, measurement method and claim process before relying on it.
How are SLA claims submitted?
The published SLA asks eligible customers to submit a support ticket within seven days of the incident, including the requested downtime dates, times and details.
Does scheduled maintenance count toward SLA downtime?
The published SLA excludes scheduled maintenance from SLA calculations, subject to the terms and notice provisions in that SLA.
What is an IP address used for?
An IP address identifies a network endpoint and allows systems to communicate over IP networks. Dedicated IP services provide a dedicated address subject to the applicable service policy.
Can an IP address be revoked?
Yes. The published policies allow IP addresses to be revoked where misuse, abuse or other policy violations occur.
How do I report a harmful or incorrect issue?
Use the support route in the Altox Cloud client area. Include enough information for the team to understand the service, issue, relevant timestamps and requested action.
Does Altox store complete payment card numbers?
The published Privacy Policy states that Altox does not store complete credit card numbers on its own servers and that payment processors handle sensitive payment information.
What personal data may Altox collect?
Depending on the service and interaction, the Privacy Policy describes account, contact, billing, support, security and service-usage information that may be collected.
Can I request deletion of my account data?
Depending on applicable law and retention requirements, users may request access, correction or deletion of personal data. Some billing, legal or security records may need to be retained.
Does Altox sell personal information?
The published Privacy Policy states that Altox does not sell, rent or trade personal information.
Where can I read the legal policies?
The footer contains direct links to the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Refund Policy, Acceptable Use Policy and Service Level Agreement.
Is the information on the technical guides a guarantee of performance?
No. Technical guides explain concepts and operational considerations. Actual performance depends on the selected service, workload, software configuration, network conditions and other factors.
How can I choose the right VPS?
Start with the workload: estimate CPU demand, memory needs, storage capacity and I/O, network requirements, operating system and backup requirements. Then compare those requirements with the current product specifications in the client area.
